As Lead Pastor, Justin grows disciples through prayer, preaching, and pastoring. Justin leads our elder and staff teams, loves his “job,” and tries to have as much fun as possible along the way.
Justin Buzzard is a 5th generation Californian who has been married to his wife, Taylor, for 13 years. They are raising three sons. Justin’s passion is the adventure of being in a growing relationship with Jesus, and helping Silicon Valley people come alive to God’s unique design for their life. Justin writes regularly at JustinBuzzard.net and is the author of The Big Story, Date Your Wife, Why Cities Matter, John: A 12 Week Study, and Consider Jesus. You can find Justin running on Bay Area trails, surfing, dating his wife, doing CrossFit with the Garden City staff, and hanging out with friends old and new. As Associate Pastor, Fred grows disciples through overseeing Garden City’s Life Groups, equipping leaders, and managing the business aspects of the church.
Fred is a second generation Chinese American who has been married to his marvelous wife, Judy, for eighteen years. They have four children: Caleb, Micah, Abby, and Elliot. Fred was spiritually formed at Chinese Church in Christ – South Valley in south San Jose and spent the past ten years there as English Pastor. Prior to vocational ministry, Fred spent nine years as a project manager and business analyst at IBM and Hitachi. Fred has a B.S. in Business Administration from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley and a M.Div. from Western Seminary.
As Worship Pastor, Ben leads Garden City to grow in discipleship through worshiping God both corporately and individually. Ben also oversees communications, helping advance the vision and mission of Garden City Church by utilizing all forms of web, social media, print, and design to celebrate and tell stories about what God is doing in our midst.
Ben has been married to his best friend Kirsten since 2009. Together they are raising their son, Joshua. Ben lives and breathes growing disciples and one of his favorite aspect of that journey is learning and teaching others how to see and worship God throughout the flow of their daily lives. You can find Ben planning the next big adventure or fishing trip, exploring all the great things this area has to offer, getting excited about sports, having fun with his family, digging into new relationships, cooking or enjoying great food, and listening to and playing music. Ben received a B.A. in Agricultural and Applied Economics from Texas Tech University and his M.A. in Biblical and Theological studies from Western Seminary.
As Youth Director, Rob is excited to build and cultivate a dynamically engaging, discipleship-driven, and community-rich Youth Ministry at Garden City that is excited about growing disciples throughout the Silicon Valley.
Rob LeLaurin is a California native and is married to the love of his life, Bethany. Rob is passionate about reaching students with the good news of Jesus and seeks to create a welcoming culture within the youth ministry at Garden City, that is characterized by being a community where students are known, loved, and experience a deep sense of belonging. As the son of a pastor, Rob grew up in church all his life, but really came to fall in love with Jesus during his teenage years. His excitement for youth ministry stems from his own personal experience of coming to know, love, and follow Jesus fervently during those formative years.
Some of Rob’s favorite activities include having good conversations with great friends, playing card games, reading thought-provoking books, exploring new ideas, eating amazing food, experiencing different cultures, and traveling the globe. Rob is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute in Chicago with a degree in Biblical Studies.
As Kids’ Director, Haley is eager to pass on a heart for discipleship and an excitement to learn about our awesome God to Garden City’s kids and leaders.
Haley was born and raised in good ol’ Fresno, California and is the oldest of three siblings. She was raised in a Christian home and learned at an early age to trust fully in God’s goodness. When difficult times hit, Haley experienced the truth of the Gospel and grew to understand that she can trust Him in any circumstance. Haley recently graduated from California State University, Fresno with a degree in Health Science. In August 2016, Haley and her husband Kevin moved to San Jose after he accepted a job offer. Haley loves to help teach others to know and to love God, and also has a passion for adults and kids with special needs. She has worked with kids affected by special needs in high school, elementary school, in church, and in several community ministries. Haley has also worked beside and with her mom, who has been leading Children’s Ministries for 12 years.
Haley enjoys dates with her husband, almost any outdoor activity, especially hiking or kayaking, hanging with her Life Group, playing board games, traveling, eating good food, and exploring the Bay Area.
As Intern, Daniel assists and receives mentoring from our Lead Pastor, coordinates ministry to our college students, and serves as a utility player on our staff team.
Daniel is married to his high school sweetheart, Sara. Daniel grew up in the Central Valley with five older siblings. He is a student at San José State University, majoring in Communication Studies. At the age of seventeen the gospel was made fresh to Daniel; this gave him the passion to surrender his life to the mission of God. Daniel has felt God’s call to serve and love Garden City Church, and is passionate about discipleship and bringing the gospel to fresh ears. Daniel has a desire to attend seminary and lead a church in the future.
On days not serving the church you can find him reading books, watching the Los Angeles Rams, Crossfit, and making coffee at his home coffee bar.
Rob Georges was born in Marin, California and lived in the North Bay area until High School when he moved to Oregon. Rob attended Oregon Institute of Technology and graduated with a B.S. in Electronics. Upon graduation he moved back to California and went to work in Silicon Valley as an engineer at Maxim Integrated. He began attending East Valley Church where he met and married his wife of 33 years, Judy. Rob and Judy have six children, three by birth and three by marriage. Dan and Tracy Newman are part of Garden City. Jeremy and Ann Marie Georges are also a part of the Garden City family. Ryun and Jamie Georges live in Houston, Texas. It is a joy to have his adult children together in church, and he hopes that Ryun and Jamie will relocate to California soon. Rob and Judy have three grandchildren.
Rob was raised by a Christian mother and Christian grandparents. His father was a merchant marine and was home infrequently. His parents were divorced while Rob was in High School and this profoundly affected his view of the marriage covenant and commitment as well as the pain that children feel as a result of broken marriages. Rob came to trust in Jesus and was baptized while in junior high. He continues his growth in knowing and yielding to Jesus through leading, serving and attending Western Seminary.
Rob’s passion is to see disciples making disciples. He disciples others regularly and encourages members of his Neighborhood Group to also participate in discipleship.
Joey was born and raised in Hong Kong, went to high school in San Francisco, and has been in northern California ever since. Joey attended U.C. Santa Cruz and graduated with a B.S. in Computer Engineering and currently works as a Product Operations Manager. Joey grew up going to church with his family, but really began to understand the gospel and accepted Christ during his high school years.
Joey is the 4th member of Garden City Church. He currently leads a Life Group in Sunnyvale. Joey loves being a part of this family where he can be known and loved. Outside of work and church, Joey is a huge bay area sports fan (Warriors, Giants, Quakes, and the 49ers). You can find Joey playing and watching sports in his free time. Joey also enjoys spending time and finding new places to eat with his little sister.
Ronnie is originally from England, but has called Silicon Valley home for over 20 years, where he helps people put down roots as a Realtor. Ronnie is married to his wife of 5 years and they welcomed their first child, Marley, in July of 2016. Ronnie loves soccer, visiting & exploring new places, and playing games with friends & family.
Ronnie grew up as a pastor’s kid and was immersed in the Christian faith and ministry from a young age, but it wasn’t until he was 18 that he fully embraced the truth of the gospel as his own. Ronnie’s faith grew through serving at his church on the worship team and in the youth ministry. Over the years Ronnie has had various roles in ministry, from volunteer to full-time staff, including most recently as the Communications Coordinator & Worship Director at Garden City.
Ronnie and his wife lead a Life Group at Garden City and enjoy pointing people towards the gospel of Jesus every week. He is excited to continually be wowed by the work that God is doing in and through Garden City. The best is yet to come!
Shea Salinas was born and raised in Texas where he did not grow up going to church, but came to know Jesus in high school. During his junior year, someone asked him if he was a Christian. He answered honestly with a casual, “Yeah. I believe in God and that Jesus existed.” His friend’s next words changed his life forever, saying “So does the devil.” This launched Shea into pursuing what it actually meant to have a relationship with Jesus, and came to know Jesus as his Lord and Savior shortly thereafter. He was baptized later that year.
Shea and Julie Salinas were married after meeting at Furman University in South Carolina where Shea graduated with a B.S. in Exercise Science. They have two young sons, Gabriel and Jude. Shea and Julie joined Garden City in 2012 and continue to enjoy being a part of this church family.
Shea is in his 10th year as a professional soccer player, having played the majority of his career in San Jose. He spent one season in both Philadelphia, PA and Vancouver, Canada. He is passionate about using his public role to make a positive impact in kids lives.
Jesus came to give us life in abundance (John 10:10) and Shea not only wants to experience more of what that means, but he wants others to experience it as well.
